1. Design and perform experiments with lab members
This role requires active engagement in experimental research, including planning, execution, and analysis. Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with principal investigators and lab members to design hypothesis-driven, scientifically sound experiments.
- Contributing to experimental design by reviewing relevant literature and proposing methodologies.
- Performing laboratory procedures in accordance with established protocols and scientific objectives.
- Troubleshooting experimental challenges and optimizing protocols as needed.
- Participating in lab meetings to discuss data, interpret results, and refine research approaches.
2. Work comfortably with rodent models
This role involves direct handling of laboratory rodents (primarily mice) and requires adherence to ethical animal research standards.
Duties include:
- Handling and caring for rodents in compliance with institutional animal care and use guidelines (IACUC).
- Performing rodent procedures such as behavioral testing, injections (e.g., intraperitoneal, subcutaneous), tissue or blood collection,
and surgeries, as required by the study.
- Monitoring animal health and welfare throughout the experimental timeline.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of procedures, animal usage, and experimental outcomes.
3. Prepare experimental reagents
Responsible for the preparation and management of reagents to support ongoing research. Tasks include:
- Preparing chemical, biological, or biochemical reagents following standard protocols or experimental needs.
- Properly labeling, aliquoting, and storing reagents to ensure quality and reproducibility.
- Maintaining sterility and proper handling practices to prevent contamination.
- Recording reagent details such as preparation dates, batch numbers, and expiration dates.
4. Manage lab inventory, ordering, and documentation
Supports laboratory operations by ensuring resources and documentation are well-maintained. Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and replenishing lab supplies and consumables.
- Ordering and tracking lab materials from approved vendors.
- Managing inventory systems to ensure accurate stock levels.
- Organizing and updating lab protocols, SOPs, safety data sheets (SDS), and other research documentation.
- Ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory standards for safety and record-keeping
- Coordinating maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment as needed.
