Job Summary

 

This position reports to the South Athletic Complex Facility Manager and has primary responsibility for the Varsity Tennis Center Membership Program. The position assists with daily operations, event support, repair and maintenance, and improvement projects on the South Athletic Complex. Working as part of a collaborative team, the Associate Facility Manager administers the Varsity Tennis Center membership program, external rentals, staff development and supervision, building supervision and revenue generation. The Associate Facility Manager is responsible for upholding the overall Internal Operations vision and ensuring the assigned facilities meet high standards for efficient operation, safety, maintenance, cleanliness, security, customer service and event execution. This position provides event and game management support requiring night and weekend work.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Assist the Facility Manager with the overall operation and direction of The Varsity Tennis Center and South Athletic Complex (Michigan Soccer Stadium, Shepherd Gymnastics, Bahna Training Facility), including safety, security, scheduling, setups, cleanliness, repairs and maintenance, interior and exterior quality control and equipment operation.
  • Administer a comprehensive membership program at the Varsity Tennis Center (VTC), including member recruitment and retention, customer service, scheduling, staff and program development.
  • Manage the overall use and schedule at the Varsity Tennis Center, including varsity teams, clubs, rentals, leagues, tournaments and other events. Duties will include planning, scheduling, staffing, direction and supervision of instructors, and providing on site supervision of all activities.
  • Provide outstanding customer service, communicate updates and respond quickly to customer needs or requests. The position is expected to respond to facility related emergencies and issues when they occur, including nights and weekends.
  • Assist with the oversight of all profit centers within the Varsity Tennis Center, including merchandise sales, racket restringing, vending and tennis ball sales. Duties include staffing, scheduling, inventory, point of sale operations, cash handling controls, ordering, and all other operational functions, while striving to meet the goals of revenue generation and cost control.
  • Assist the Facility Manager with marketing efforts for The Varsity Tennis Center including website administration, promotions, advertisements, in-house marketing, social media, etc.
  • Assist the Facility Manager with the development, implementation, and administration of all budgets within the areas of responsibility.
  • Assist the Facility Manager with the event support for all events occurring on the South Athletic Complex, including the University of Michigan Soccer Complex.
  • Oversee and assist with all aspects of court maintenance including court sweeping, court scrubbing, tennis net and court maintenance.
  • Directly supervise student or temporary employees, concessions staff, event staff, instructors, and others involved with facility operations.
  • Perform administrative activities, including the preparation of special reports, fiscal records, inventory and service charges.
  • Ensure safety is the highest priority and comply with all EHS safety standards and programs.
  • Assure compliance with University purchasing protocols, ADA codes, NCAA and Big Ten Rules.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Minimum 2-3 years of progressively responsible experience in sports facility operations
  • Ability to work an irregular schedule, including nights and weekends

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's Degree or appropriate mix of education and work experience
  • Successful experience working in a team environment
  • Experience in leading, managing, and evaluating employee performance
  • Knowledge and experience with website and social media platforms for marketing purposes
  • Experience in customer service related role, food service role, or sales role
  • Experience maintaining large scale state-of-the art facilities and keeping them in pristine condition
  • Knowledge of NCAA and Big Ten Compliance rules
  • Knowledge of EHS Safety Programs
