Who Are We?

The School of Dentistry (SoD) Dental Informatics IT department is looking for a Dental Informatics Support Technician Intermediate to join our team. You will deliver front-line support for technology, communicate with end-users to resolve issues, and contribute to ongoing process improvements. 

 

Our organization supports faculty, staff, and students across the SoD's mission in teaching, patient care, research, and administration. We manage a diverse IT ecosystem that includes clinical operatories, classrooms, research labs, and administrative offices. The posting range for this position is $54,000 to $65,000. This salary range reflects multiple factors involved in determining compensation, including skills, experience, training, certifications, and other organizational needs.

What You'll Do:

  • You will resolve and document moderately complex technical issues for desktops, clinical, educational, and event spaces, escalating as needed.
  • You will install, update, and configure software and device drivers per policy, and maintain accurate records.
  • You will troubleshoot imaging equipment, EHR, AV, and network issues, and report recurring problems to the team.
  • You will collaborate with ITS and HITS on centrally managed service issues, documenting and ensuring effective warm handoffs.
  • You will apply security updates, address vulnerabilities, and support compliance through careful documentation.
  • You will provide advanced user support and training for specialized technology and systems.
  • You will consult on technology solutions and purchases, ensuring best practices and operational alignment.
  • You will analyze incident data and assist in process improvements, including testing and documenting new workflows.
  • You will help review and update troubleshooting procedures to strengthen team consistency.
  • You will mentor junior staff, assist with onboarding, and share knowledge in a collaborative environment.
  • This position reports to the Dental Informatics IT Help Center Manager.

 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and relevant experience.
  • 2 or more years of professional experience providing technical support for Windows, MacOS, iOS, and active directory services in a multi-user environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve a range of software, hardware, and network connectivity issues.
  • Experience assisting users and communicating technical information in a help desk or IT support setting.
  • Skill in documenting technical problems, solutions, and support processes.
  • Proficiency with IT ticketing systems and asset tracking tools.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of information security and safe computing practices.

 

 

Modes of Work

This position is fully onsite and requires working on campus five days per week. Flexible scheduling within our standard hours may be available. Learn more about work modes.

 

Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM-5:30 PM. Some clinics operate until 7:30 PM one to two evenings a week and may occasionally require support on Saturdays. IT system upgrades, critical fixes, and maintenance may be performed outside normal business hours.

Your primary working location will be within the School of Dentistry in Ann Arbor. On occasion, you may be required to travel to additional research labs or administrative locations.

This position is located at the UM School of Dentistry, 1101 North University Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48109. The School of Dentistry comprises multiple clinics and administrative locations in Ann Arbor. On occasion, you may be required to travel to those locations.

You will work fully on-site at the School of Dentistry in Ann Arbor.
