Job Summary

 

The Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations is the primary contact between a set of assigned University units and a portfolio of Corporate and Foundation entities, with a focus on those working within the Health Sciences area. The core responsibility will be to create philanthropic support from the corporate and professional foundation community. You will also assume oversight for Corporate and Foundation Relations support of the following schools - College of Pharmacy; School of Dentistry; School of Kinesiology; School of Nursing. Other health science assignments will also be allocated as necessary, and specifically working with the CFR teams for the College of Literature, Science and Arts, and Michigan Medicine, and supporting efforts aligned with the Office of the Vice President for Research priorities.

Responsibilities*

 

Corporate & Foundation Relations Fundraising and Outreach 75%

  • Lead efforts to solicit funding from corporations and foundations
  • Manage a portfolio of corporate and foundation relationships
  • Provide guidance for strategic proposal development, grant applications, and status reports
  • Conduct or oversee prospect research based on funder gaps and faculty expertise
  • Work closely with the Office of University Development corporate and foundations team, unit-based CFR colleagues, the Office of the Vice President for Research, and major gifts teams to identify promising multi-faculty, multi-disciplinary initiatives for large-scale funding opportunities
  • Support gift and grant agreement review and processing
  • Cultivate and steward donors - schedule and host visits (to campus and to corporations and foundations). This process may also, include virtual visit.

Corporate & Foundation Relations and support of Faculty Awards - 15%

  • Serve as institutional contact for select corporations and foundations, as determined by the Senior Executive Director
  • Work in close collaboration with other CFR colleagues and the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) to support faculty outreach and support of limited submission competitions
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of faculty information sessions, in collaboration with key partners at OVPR and units.

Administrative - 10%

  • With administrative support, track interactions and log into the DART, the Office of Development's donor database

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's degree
  • You should have 4+ years of experience working in a corporate and foundation relations fundraising environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Experience setting priorities and to create strategies to increase revenue
  • Flexibility to meet changing priorities
  • Strong technical skills, including familiarity with cloud-based tools, spreadsheet, database, data visualization tools, and other applications
