Program Management and Advising
- Develop and refine UMSN's global policies and procedures, in collaboration with Office of Global Affairs faculty and staff. Lead compliance across UMSN with University requirements and standards for global health and safety, as well as continue to develop excellence in health and safety practices within the global student experiences.
- Work collaboratively with the International Education Advisor to provide student support and advising for global health minor (undergraduate level), global health concentration (graduate level) and Global Practice and Leadership Concentration.
- Lead training for faculty developing new programs abroad.
- Develop budgets and budget projections for supported student and faculty led group travel.
- Provide students with information about financial aid options and admissions requirements for global programs, provide general advising concerning global program selection and student life aspects of studying abroad such as health and safety, global diversity, cultural immersion, academic and career goals.
- Prepare and support UMSN students and faculty for international experiences from pre-decision to re-entry through presentations, information sessions, developing informational materials, and providing one-on-one and small group advising.
- Respond to student, parent, faculty, and staff inquires via phone calls, walk-in sessions, appointments, and e-mails during the various stages of off-campus program participation including pre-application, pre-departure, global onsite, and return to U-M.
- Work with UMSN Communications and Marketing staff and campus partners to promote student opportunities.
- Work with UMSN departments to integrate global perspective into curriculum and co-curricular activities.
- Continuously review guidelines, procedures, and processes for improving office efficiencies.
Coordination and Management of Global Engagement Activities
- Serve in mentorship role to advisor colleague and provide supervision to student temp staff.
- Facilitate the application process, application review, admissions process, program coordination, and post-program processes for faculty led student groups. Coordinate with faculty, staff, and students regarding program requirements such as submission of forms, meeting health and safety requirements, and understanding program-related policies.
- Provide support and assistance to Office of Global Affairs leadership in periodic and time sensitive projects.
- Coordinate all aspects of international visiting scholars including initiation of visa application with the Shared Services Center (SSC), housing, insurance, mentoring matching, and evaluation.
- Initiate and track existent MOUs.
- Keep listservs/CANVAS sites up-to-date, provide website updates, event management, and coordination as needed.
- Provide interface with faculty and students, including accurate and timely follow-up.
- Work to create and maintain an open, safe, and inclusive environment for all students.
- Partner with faculty to identify opportunities for the integration of global perspectives and issues into curricula and academic programs across departments.
- Assist in the design and enhancement of course content, modules, and experiential learning activities that foster global awareness, intercultural knowledge and competence.
- Identify and promote opportunities for faculty and staff engagement with the office.
- Serve as the office liaison to faculty with the goal of expanding and deepening faculty participation in global engagement activities.
- Work collaboratively with campus partners involved in global engagement to identify, develop and support interdisciplinary initiatives that advance the school and university's global mission.
- Develop relationships with in-country vendors and 3rd party providers.
Reports and Database Maintenance
- Maintain data on identified metrics, conduct data analysis, and generate written and oral reports.
- Work in close collaboration with the grants and research office staff to approve program fees and reconcile travel budgets.
- Continuously review guidelines, procedures and processes for improving office efficiencies, including assessment tool to measure the impact of global education programs.
- Evaluate our relationships with global sites from their perspective and from students' engagement
- Work in collaboration with the Office of Global Affairs on grants and publications.
- Work with the M-Pathways and M-Compass Student Administration System, databases, and work processing systems to run various reports. Make recommendations to senior management on program improvement measures
