The University of Michigan, a globally recognized leader in education, research, and patient care with an operating budget exceeding $14 billion, seeks an experienced and highly strategic professional for the role of Chief of Staff and Advisor to the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (EVPCFO). Reporting directly to the EVPCFO, this individual will serve as a trusted advisor, strategic partner, and key member of the leadership team - overseeing C-suite collaboration, guiding cross-functional initiatives, and ensuring organizational alignment with the EVPCFO's vision.

Success in this role requires exceptional judgment, political acumen, superior communication skills, and the ability to build consensus across a large, decentralized institution. The position is high-visibility and fast-paced, demanding professionalism, discretion, and adaptability.

The Chief of Staff and Advisor is responsible for advancing the EVPCFO's strategic agenda and ensuring operational effectiveness across a broad range of responsibilities. This includes helping to shape and implement strategic goals, monitoring progress, coordinating key initiatives, and serving as a representative of the EVPCFO in internal and external contexts.

You will bring a high level of professionalism, integrity, and collegiality, along with a strong track record of advising executive leaders. Drawing on your experience in strategic planning and program management, you will navigate complex institutional environments with sound judgment and political sensitivity. Your exceptional communication skills will enable you to tailor messages for diverse audiences and build strong relationships across the organization.

This role requires discretion in handling sensitive matters and a respectful, inclusive leadership style. You will be expected to manage multiple priorities with composure and flexibility, bringing a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset to your work. High initiative, empathy, and clarity in leadership will distinguish your success. This is a primarily on-site position, five days per week, and may include after-hours responsibilities and occasional travel.
