Job Summary

 

The University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is hiring a Financial Operations Specialist to join a diverse team of professionals dedicated to continuous improvement of processes and services within LSA Technology Services. You will report to the Director of Operational Effectiveness in the Technology Services department. Salary Range - $47,000 - $58,350.

ABOUT THE JOB 

The Financial Operations Specialist serves as a critical partner in supporting the financial management and accountability of audiovisual (AV) projects within LSA Technology Services. This position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and overseeing financial reconciliation processes, ensuring all AV project expenses are accurately tracked, reported, and managed in accordance with project budgets and university policies. Working both independently and in collaboration with cross-functional teams, the Financial Operations Specialist provides a wide range of financial support to AV initiatives, including service recharge, billing, and budgeting functions. This role actively contributes to the development of the LSA Technology Services annual budget request and engages regularly with stakeholders to guarantee that project objectives are met efficiently and expenditures align with organizational goals.

Responsibilities*

 

50% - Financial Reconciliation/AV Project Support

Provide comprehensive financial management and support for AV and construction projects, ensuring compliance with university policies and accurate tracking of budgets and funding. 

Coordinate procurement processes, monitor expenditures, and reconcile financial records in partnership with project teams, vendors, and purchasing staff. 

Oversee financial close-out procedures, client billing, and audit-ready documentation for multiple large- and medium-scale capital and technology initiatives. 

10% - Financial Reporting/Communication 

Prepare and communicate detailed financial reports and updates on project progress, procurement, expenditures, and billing to project managers, staff, and internal stakeholders. 

Coordinate procurement and billing processes internally, tailoring information to the needs of different groups throughout all phases of each project.

20% - LSA Technology Services - Budget/Forecasting support 

Coordinate Annual and Monthly updates for the following budget items, Temporary Staffing and Software Licenses 

15% - Cross Training/Backup Support 

Coordinate and ensure cross-training on core responsibilities and related tasks within other positions on our team 

5% - Professional Development 

Career and skill development via various training opportunities (conferences, online resources, cross-training

Required Qualifications*

 

High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant work experience. 

Demonstrated experience with financial reconciliation, budgeting, and/or accounting in an organizational setting. 

Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and a commitment to financial accuracy.

 Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.

 Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Proficiency with financial software, spreadsheets, and reporting tools. 

Demonstrated experience working closely with vendors and/or purchasing departments to obtain quotes 

Ability to work independently and collaboratively, depending on business needs 

Demonstrated ability to manipulate and analyze large datasets and to generate comprehensive reports and visualizations using Excel or other tools 

Proven track record of identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex problems efficiently and effectively
