Serving the U-M community, Custodial & Grounds Services is the steward of the buildings and grounds that make the University of Michigan's Ann Arbor campus unique. Our employees take pride in providing exceptional customer service while conserving, enhancing, and maintaining over 26 million square feet of property.
Our mission is to deliver excellence in service by providing comprehensive custodial services, pest management, grounds maintenance, and landscape design services, all in support of a safe, functional, and visually appealing campus environment.
The department's work enables the continuation of patient care, student housing, animal husbandry, utility distribution, snow removal, debris removal, and other critical infrastructure support. Custodial and Grounds staff are designated as critical employees, which means in the event of a University of Michigan emergency reduction in operations, including a public health emergency, suspension of academic classes, or during weather-related events, critical employees are expected to report to work.
