The University of Michigan, Dept of Psychiatry is looking for an ambitious, detail oriented candidate to be a part of our growing team. The Research Assistant (RA) in this role will help recruit, interview and provide virtual motivational interviewing (MI) interventions for a federally funded clinical trial.

The study is a SMART trial looking to evaluate three virtual treatment interventions for alcohol use disorder. As a RA, you will make sure that accurate and timely data is collected for participants throughout this large-scale project. You will also have the opportunity to be trained in two of the MI-based treatment interventions; one a telehealth session and the other a text based portal. 
 

This position is a great opportunity to learn more about the human subjects research process from start to finish, gain experience in 1:1 participant contact (both through interviews and intervention) and expand your knowledge on substance use and mental health treatment. Incumbent may be asked to work on other research projects within the lab as project needs arise.

     In this role, the Research Assistant will be responsible for:

• Engaging in the participant recruitment, screening, and informed consent process
• Completing data collection assessments with participants via phone, on computer, and via mail
• Use of the following for project data entry and to track participant information including (but not limited to) Access, Excel, REDCap, Qualtrics, Ripple (and their predecessors)
• Additional responsibilities include maintaining project records, reviewing electronic medical records to identify eligible study participants, performing thorough risk assessments per study protocols, data entry, remuneration and mailing, participating in team meetings and trainings, and coordination of daily study tasks as needed to carry out the study.

• Associate Degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is desirable. 
• An understanding of medical terminology, experience in a larger complex health care setting, ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels, and knowledge of university policies and procedures is desired

A fully prepared candidate for this role will present: 

• Background in research methods and/or clinical settings.  
• Experience using MS Excel and MS programs, Access, Qualtrics and REDCap is preferred. 
• Experience running analyses or using data analysis software (R, SPSS, SAS, etc.) is desired.
• Experience working with patients and/or substance use populations is preferred, but not required.
• Eagerness to learn new tasks and skills.
• Strong ability to problem-solve is highly desired. 
• Ability to maneuver throughout technology and remote communication.

Research Assistant will be responsible for completing a schedule consisting of 40 hours a week held within 5 days. Our typical workday is either 9am to 5pm or 8am to 4pm based on manager?s approval. Some weekend or evening shifts will be needed to meet the goals and needs of the research grants. Flexible hours are available for staff while we work remotely for participant-facing activities only or based on manager discretion and approval.

Our team is currently expected to work a hybrid model, with at least 1 day per week working from the Ann Arbor North Campus Research Complex office. This is subject to change based on participant/grant needs or institutional policies (Completely remote positions offered for candidates living 60 miles away from the office).
