The Comprehensive Studies Program (CSP) in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan invites applications for a Lecturer position in Mathematics for the Fall 2025 term. The selected candidate will teach two sections of Math 105 (Data, Functions, and Graphs-Precalculus) for a 100% appointment. These sections meet on MWF 8-10 and 10-12.

As a part of their instructional appointment, all CSP faculty support student learning outside of the classroom through additional office hours. All faculty are expected to provide students with regular feedback on in-class and homework assignments and quizzes. Applicants for this position are also expected to interact with and provide feedback to CSP Academic Advisors regarding student academic progress during the term.

Expectations

Successful candidates will:

1. Share the CSP Math faculty's student-centered, compassionate, and humanistic teaching approach and organize their classrooms as spaces of active, collaborative learning where rigor is balanced with support. 
2. Demonstrate the ability to teach a college-level Precalculus and Calculus courses with an emphasis on concepts and applications over formulae and rote computation
3. Balance academic rigor with support 
4. Devote extra time and effort to students outside class via additional office hours for individualized instruction (conferences)
5. Provide students with regular, meaningful feedback on assignments 
6. Employ inclusive and accessible teaching practices. 
7. Provide feedback to CSP Academic Advisors regarding student academic progress. 
   Relevant teaching experience and qualifications, including demonstrated evidence of outstanding teaching will determine the selection of a candidate.

• Master's degree (or higher) in Mathematics or related discipline.
• At least two years of experience teaching mathematics, including concept and application-based precalculus and calculus.
• A demonstrated commitment to inclusive and accessible teaching practices

A minimum of 2 years teaching a rigorous concept and applications-based version of Precalculus and Calculus I such as the courses offered at the U-M. Experience designing and implementing inquiry-based learning activities and hands-on projects on real-world topics. A facility with integral and multivariable Calculus in service of building meaningful bridges between students' current and future studies.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
