The Center for Educational Outreach (CEO) serves as the principal resource for faculty, staff, and students who seek to engage with schools on issues of higher education access and success toward developing a diverse community of scholars at the University of Michigan. CEO seeks energetic and knowledgeable candidates to offer support and educational services to rising 12th-grade students as part of its GEAR UP program. GEAR UP summer staff will provide support for overnight campus visits, educational programs, training resources, and assistance through workshops, information sessions, and distribution of materials. Additionally, the GEAR UP Staff will collect data and conduct surveys as needed.
Expectations
As a GEAR UP Summer staff member, you will represent the Center for Educational Outreach, yourself, and other team members in a manner that provides a positive reflection of our institutional vision, goals, mission, and efforts. You will establish positive relationships among community leaders, youth, as well as University of Michigan students, faculty, and staff. Must be able to plan, prepare, design, and lead mini-lessons, workshops, and panels in subjects related, but not limited to socio-emotional skills, non-cognitive skills, financial aid, and scholarship access, the college application process, and college and career decision-making; must be comfortable speaking in front of a group and sharing personal experiences as a college student. Additionally, there will be times when you are asked to work on some weekends and during evening hours.
Duration
This is a temporary position, starting June 23, 2025, and ending August 8, 2025. This position will require evening hours, including supervising high school students during an overnight experience in a residence hall at the University of Michigan (U-M).
