The Endoscope Processing Technician evaluates, troubleshoots, disassembles, assembles, and inspects endoscopes and TEE probes to ensure proper function, under direction of the department leadership. They maintain accurate records (manual and electronic), follow safe work practices, participate in quality systems and 5S programs, and ensure clean, organized work environment. The position requires confidentiality, a high standard of attendance and punctuality, and the ability to work overtime as needed.  

Job Purpose: Proper handling and processing of endoscopes, TEE Probes, and accessory equipment in accordance with infection control standards, national guidelines, and UMHS policies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leak test, clean and high level disinfect endoscopes, TEE probes, endocavitary probes 
• Clean and disinfect accessory equipment
• Perform manual cleaning of endoscopes
• Stock department supplies and place orders as needed
• Transport scopes for repair
• Conduct quality checks on detergents, chemicals, and equipment
• Operate AERs, ultrasound machines, leak testers, and HLD equipment
• Demonstrate professionalism and model the employee code of conduct

Required Qualifications:             

• HS diploma or GED 
• One year experience processing endoscopy equipment/instrumentation (manual and AER)
• Reprocessing competency demonstrated before hire
• Completion of an endoscopy reprocessing course
• Endoscopy certification required within one year of hire
• Must not be under corrective action per union contract
• Ability to meet functional/physical requirements of the job

Desired:

• Two or more years of experience with equipment/instrument processing
• Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocssor (CFER) certification

Shift will be 10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., M-F

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the AFSCME, which governs wages, benefits, hours and other employment terms.
