The research laboratory of Dr. Anthony Rosenzweig in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI is in search of an exceptional postdoctoral fellow to join the research team. The laboratory is situated in the heart of Michigan Medicine at the North Campus Research Complex in a newly renovated laboratory building within steps of a multitude of research resources, easy access to collaborators, and research services. The laboratory research focuses on cardiac physiology and disease, interested in understanding how exercise protects the heart against heart failure.  A growing interest surrounds common mechanisms affecting both the heart and the brain, and how the organs signal to each other in health and disease.

Of note, an important goal of postdoctoral training is the career development of the fellow. Dr. Rosenzweig has supervised over 60 postdoctoral fellows previously in the laboratory.  Most of those who have left the lab have gone on to successful careers as independent investigators.  Fourteen hold leadership positions, including as department, division, or research center chairs. In addition to advancing specific projects in the laboratory, Dr. Rosenzweig looks forward to working with the selected candidate to further their career goals.

We are seeking candidates with a passion for science with the potential to substantively impact our understanding of health and disease. The successful candidate will have outstanding molecular biology skills (e.g. vector design and generation, genetic murine models, and/or genome editing), a strong understanding of physiology and disease models, as well as a track record of innovative scientific contributions.  Initiative, drive, the ability to analyze and assess integrative pathophysiological models of disease, and an openness to collaboration will all be important attributes for success in this exciting, multi-disciplinary environment. As the selected candidate, you will be expected to work under the guidance of the PI and laboratory administrator while working collegially and collaboratively with other laboratory personnel.

• Doctoral Degree in applicable field with relevant research experience. 
• Strong molecular biology and biochemistry skills.  Experience with vector design and construction (particularly AAV and lentivirus), somatic and germline genetic models, genome editing are all helpful in addition to more standard techniques (QPCR, immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, cell culture and cell-based assays, etc).
• Strong background in physiology and disease models with the ability to perform analyses and assess integrative pathophysiological in one or more models of cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and/or neurogenerative disease, including models of ischemic injury and heart failure. 
• Familiarity with current genomic technologies such as RNAseq (bulk and/or single-cell). Proteomics, etc is very helpful.

• Curiosity, passion for science, initiative, drive, and critical thinking are all essential.
• Comfort with generating and characterizing germline and somatic genetic models in mice.
• Expertise with noncoding RNA (microRNA, lncRNA, circular RNA) and assessing downstream mechanisms of action.
• Experience assessing cardiac, vascular, and/or brain function in murine models very helpful.
