Job Summary

 

The Inclusive History Project (IHP) Program Assistants will play a key role in supporting the development and execution of the Urban Renewal Exhibition, while also contributing to broader research on urban renewal at UM-Flint. This position offers students with interests in urban studies, public history, art, design, and/or community development hands-on experience in community-engaged research, exhibition design and installation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

This position is from July 2025 through December 15, 2025 for approximately 10 hours per week. This is an in-person position with some opportunities for remote work.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Assist with the design, fabrication, installation, and de-installation of the Urban Renewal exhibition
  • Conduct archival research on urban renewal in Flint to support both exhibition content and academic inquiry
  • Participate in the safe handling, transport, and storage of exhibition elements
  • Assist with painting, build-out, and general preparation of exhibition spaces
  • Attend project planning meetings and support team communication efforts
  • Maintain organized records of research findings and exhibition development
  • Support audio/visual setup and documentation, including handling equipment and preparing multimedia materials

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate student at the University of Michigan-Flint
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently
  • Willingness to engage in physical tasks such as painting or lifting exhibition materials (training provided)

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Experience with exhibition work, fabrication, or A/V equipment
  • Familiarity with archival research or community-based projects
  • Knowledge of Flint's history or related social justice topics

Modes of Work

 

Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
