Design and perform experiments to understand the molecular basis of cardiomyopathy induced by diet and aging, including: imaging and electrophysiology, animal experimentation, metabolomics and transcriptomics studies, and organization and curation of tissue samples; conduct statistical analysis of data and interpret/discuss research with the principal investigator, lab members, and collaborators; formulate research methods and suggest options for improving quality, as well as identifying potential problems and recommending solutions; create, maintain, and inventory small-molecule libraries used by the group and academic collaborators; write animal protocols and act as the contact point to communicate with the institutional animal care committee; oversee laboratory operations, including general management, ordering of lab supplies, organization and maintenance of animal colonies, maintenance of inventory, lab space and protocols oversight, operation and calibration of instrumentation and other research equipment, and participation in establishment of new techniques and/or regulations; ensure lab documentation is up to date for safety inspections; serve as point of contact to train, assist, and support new lab members on techniques and research projects; assist with the development of research goals, writing grants, and manuscripts for publication.
