The Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery is looking for a Research Lab Specialist Intermediate.  This position will manage day to day lab operations including ordering of supplies, organization of data, and laboratory experiments. The Research Lab Specialist will exercise greater autonomy in managing operations of the laboratory, which focuses on head and neck cancer biology with a particular interest on mechanisms of cancer invasion.

Responsibilities include coordinating the processing and analysis of data and conducting experiments discussed with the PI, and the Research Specialist will also provide input onto next steps and directions of experiments. Explains and demonstrates competence in experimental procedures, design of controls, and operation of equipment. Will participate in training and mentoring of additional junior lab personnel including medical students, residents, graduate students, and/or undergraduate students. Responsible for ensuring lab documentation is up to date for safety inspections. Acts as a liaison with other departments, programs, or organizations for acquiring data and sharing information related to the research project. Finally, assists the PI in development of research goals, with decision making responsibility for a substantial portion of the project work. 

• Bachelor's Degree is required. 
• At least 5 years of experience in a related laboratory environment and scientific field.

• Planning to stay in hired position for at least 2 years.
• Experience in molecular biology techniques including:
  • Cell culture with sterile technique
  • Immunoblotting
  • DNA/RNA extraction and interfacing with genomics core.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and follow cell culture based protocols.
  • Flow cytometry experience.
  • Analysis of data using GraphPad Prism and appropriate statistics.
  • Use of PowerPoint to display and present data.
  • Experience with basic mouse work including handling, xenograft procedures.
  • Organized, able to use Dropbox and shared drives to clearly label and store data.
