Job Summary

 

The Armenian Research Center (ARC) at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is seeking a part-time Assistant to help with sorting and organizing the Center's library and collections.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Identify and manage duplicate items, including multiple duplicates
  • Update and maintain the ARC's internal catalog
  • Assist with sorting, shelving and un-shelving materials
  • Create container lists and directories
  • Make lists of uncatalogued resources and create basic finding aids
  • Prepare materials for long-term storage

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Working knowledge of Eastern or Western Armenian, including the ability to read fluently and recognize the orthographic differences
  • Experience working with physical collections
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and follow-up skills
  • Armenian language fluency 

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Knowledge of Turkish, Russian, Arabic or other languages is a plus, but not required
  • Experience with creating and editing MARC records, and copy cataloging a plus but not required
  • Enrollment in or recent completion of a Master's-level program in Library Science, or a related field is preferred, but not required
