The School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan invites applications for one or more Lecturer I position(s), commencing August 25, 2025. This per-term role will have an initial appointment of up to 1 year and the potential for renewal. This is a University-year (9-month) position with the possibility for additional teaching in the summer. This position ranges from 25-100% appointment effort, depending on the teaching load. Primary teaching responsibilities will be associated with teaching and course design for undergraduate students in Applied Exercise Science (AES) or Movement Science (MVS). The School is seeking candidates with a strong background in one or more of the following areas:
Science Communication: Candidates should be prepared to teach and mentor students in skills for communicating research findings in kinesiology (study of physical activity) via new and legacy media. Topics include op-ed writing, podcasting, social media strategies, blogging, working with media, and more. This is a new course in the School (AES 413 - Science Communication).
Scientific Writing: Candidates should be prepared to teach and mentor students in the writing process, particularly within intensive writing courses designed to build proficiency in analyzing, synthesizing, and clearly presenting research findings in kinesiology. This is an established course in the School (MVS 219 - Scientific Writing).
Social and Behavioral Aspects of Physical Activity: Candidates should have a demonstrated focus in the social and behavioral determinants of physical activity and their implications for public and community health. Instructional responsibilities may include courses that examine how social, environmental, and psychological factors influence physical activity behaviors, such as:
- AES 416 - Environmental and Policy Approaches to Increasing Physical Activity. This course will describe the manner in which environments and policies influence physical activity behavior. The course is organized by sectors (e.g., parks, neighborhoods, schools and worksites).
- AES 446 - The Role of Social Factors in Shaping Physical Activity Behavior. This course discusses the social determinants of health and their impact on physical activity behaviors.
- AES 460 - Design and Evaluation of Physical Activity Interventions. This course equips students with knowledge, skills, and competency for designing and evaluating a physical activity intervention for healthy and/or special populations across lifespan.
