The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Pre-employment drug testing for positions located at Michigan Medicine applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses, with the exception of internal transfers from the Hospital Maintenance Department. Michigan Medicine also requires candidates to complete a new employee health assessment.****
