Acute Hemodialysis Unit
Independently and completely performs focused assessment of dialysis patients to provide the most effective patient care. Assess, monitor, report and manage significant changes in a patient's condition/status, including responses to medications and treatments. Provide nursing care to patients including the administration of medications and treatments ordered and assist with interventional procedures. Document patient care, including changes in patient's status. Identify problems presented by patients and families and initiate appropriate interventions. To provide nursing advice and consultation and act as a resource to other health care team members. Individualizes communication based on the assessment of the patients and families. Independently set up, prime, initiate, manage/monitor and terminate specialized renal therapies (including Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy) in multiple clinical settings (ICU, ER, OR, etc). Assist physicians with sterile procedures for acute line placements. Complete on-call as assigned. To maintain clinical expertise within this unique renal failure patient population by seeking out additional learning experiences within specialized renal therapies. Participate in ensuring patient safety. Assist in research studies and quality assurance activities.
