The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Facilities Manager to be a part of our team. In this role, you will oversee the maintenance, enhancement, and capital projects of the Camp Michigania facilities, grounds, and equipment. Your efforts will be integral in helping to bring the beauty and splendor of Walloon Lake and Northern Michigan to alumni and their families.

Camp Michigania is an alumni family camp spanning 377 acres near the shores of Walloon Lake in Boyne City, Michigan, owned and operated by the Alumni Association since 1962. Michigania provides year round programming for Michigan alumni and their families, including an 11-week summer camp. Learn more about Michigania here: Camp Michigania.

• Oversee year round maintenance and upkeep of Michigania facilities including buildings, grounds, utilities, program equipment, vehicles, and watercraft.
• Assist in the long-range planning for capital improvements. Oversee implementation of complex facilities capital projects. 
• Develop innovative strategies for facility maintenance, including but not limited to schedules for deferred maintenance and equipment replacement.
• Create and implement a digital project management process for maintenance and capital projects. Utilize AAUM's project management software. 
• Purchase appropriate materials, tools, and other supplies as needed.
• Obtain quotes on contracted services including but not limited to painters, builders, electricians, etc.
• Work with contractors, monitor work, and completion of projects, including major construction projects.
• Assist administrative, program, and food service staff members in making sure that all facilities and equipment are in safe working condition.
• Monitor and record water and sewage flow meter readings, and submit sewage data to DEQ.
• Perform seasonal activation/deactivation of equipment and buildings. Monitor and order gasoline, propane, waste containers, and similar supplies as needed.
• Provide on-call facility support and guest support. 
• Oversee snow removal as needed.
• Train, supervise, and coordinate the efforts of Work Weekend volunteers.
• Oversee the budget and be financially responsible (e.g., managing monthly spending, forecasting, and stewarding) for the Alumni Association's resources by aligning programs with organizational goals.
• Effectively lead, manage and supervise the team communicating expectations, setting work schedules and priorities, providing opportunities for personal and professional growth through regular performance reviews, guidance, and encouraging training while presenting new techniques, and recruiting/hiring staff as needed.
• Workload is approximately 50% administrative and project/staff management, and 50% physical work

General Responsibilities:

• Provide organizational leadership by demonstrating AAUM core values: All In, Serving Heart and Solution Seeker, and helping other staff members demonstrate those values.
• Value and embrace different identities and perspectives recognizing that everyone has unique and different experiences that contribute to the best solution seeking and success for AAUM. 
• Work with AAUM staff members to gain a clear and consistent understanding of the details of the strategic plan and feel equal ownership of every piece of it, including pieces for which there is no direct responsibility.
• Be collaborative with all AAUM staff and teams. Operate as a critical contributing member of the staff to complete objectives in many different areas in order to move the whole organization toward the strategic plan.
• Support University Relations efforts by demonstrating AAUM value to campus units/partners (i.e., schools/colleges, campuses).
• Continually build digital skill sets in order to implement into work.
• Staff and participate in team meetings, Alumni Association events that may be during evenings or weekends, and staff retreats including offsite, overnight staff retreats at Camp Michigania.
• Provide staff support to the Alumni Association's Board of Directors, its committees, and other volunteers as needed.
• Coordinate special projects as assigned or required.
• Participate in Alumni Association and other University committees as required.
• Share knowledge through internal communication.
• Support the Alumni Association's vision of creating a place of belonging for all alumni.
• Remain current with respect to technology and the university's educational resources.

Supervision Received:

General supervision is received from the Executive Director of Michigania.

Supervision Exercised:

Direct supervision is exercised over the Michigania Maintenance Mechanics and seasonal maintenance staff.

• A high school diploma is required and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Supervisory experience is required.
• Extensive knowledge and experience in building construction and maintenance, vehicle maintenance and repair, small engine/motor repair, and electrical and plumbing installation and maintenance is required.
• Demonstrated ability to work in team environments is required.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise judgment in setting work priorities is required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, contractors, and customers. 
• Ability to positively interact with a broad spectrum of ages and personalities on a daily basis.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Water & Sewage certification for the state of Michigan is preferred, but can be obtained within 1 year of being hired.
• Demonstrated experience with computer systems including Google suite, Excel, and project management software. Ability and willingness to adapt with changing technology and software platforms. 

• Contractor's license is desired.
• Construction project management experience is desired.
• Budget management experience is desirable.
• Previous experience working with volunteers is desirable.

• This position requires a 6 day work week during the summer starting in May and ending in late August. 
• Evening work, weekend work, and on-call time is required in order to act as caretaker for the facility.

• AAUM welcomes applications from people of all abilities. This particular position requires the ability to move a minimum of 50 lbs and to do labor intensive physical work
• Onsite living is preferred to handle emergency facility situations and on-call time, but that will depend on the applicant's proximity to camp and the qualifications of the individual selected for this position.
