Job Summary

 

This is full time (40-hour), position will serve pediatric patients and their families who are seeking social work services related to gender identity and/or mental health. This position is primarily assessment and psychotherapy with the potential to perform additional social work services. Willingness to adapt care for different patient populations when there is a patient demand to do so is also required.

Duties will include providing direct billable clinical work in evaluating and treating pediatric patients with gender identity and/or mental health concerns, participation on a multi-disciplinary outpatient team, providing support and education to caregivers/families, and participation in the education and training of students. Clinical population includes gender dysphoria, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, suicidal ideation and behaviors and other psychiatric needs. 

Provider will need experience in gender assessments and have advanced evidence-based psychotherapy training comprising supervised clinical experience using this modality for 6 or more months.  Although this position is primarily clinical, candidates should have the knowledge base and experience to participate in the education and training of students and staff from social work and other disciplines.

Responsibilities*

 

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing direct billable clinical work including psychiatric and gender evaluations and psychotherapy to pediatric patients with gender identity concerns and/or mental disorders. 
  • Providing cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and/or similar evidence-based short-term treatments
  • Maintain competency in the WPATH Standards of Care and follow care guidelines for patients as appropriate
  • Participation in the education and training of students and staff from social work and other disciplines. 

Required Qualifications*

 
  • A Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
  • A current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan.

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Applicants should have advanced CBT, IPT, or similar training comprising supervised clinical experience using this modality for 6 or more months. 
  • Applicants with full licensure and psychotherapy training will be considered the most qualified. 
  • Applicants should have the knowledge base and experience to participate in the education and training of students and staff from social work and other disciplines. 
  • Efficient, accurate psychiatric assessment skills and effective case presentation skills.
  • Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position. 
  • Effective collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in keeping accurate and timely clinical records by computer.

Work Schedule

 

This is full time, 40 hour/week position. This position may require some evening hours, typically 1-2 days per week. 

Work Locations

 

C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI and other locations as needed to support patient populations seen in other locations.

Underfill Statement

 

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.  Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
