Job Summary

 

The Office of Research at the University of Michigan-Flint is seeking to fill an Industry Research Liaison position to enhance industry-focused research and strategic partnerships. This position
serves in establishing and enhancing research relationships with key corporate partners and reports to the Director of Research.

Responsibilities*

 

Industry Relations

  • Serve as a liaison between UMF Office of Research and industry to foster research strategic engagement and collaboration.
  • Support the creation and execution of industry research engagement strategies, including outreach, partnership coordination, and follow-up.
  • Establish industry research proposals, engagement plans, and agreements to secure and enhance research investments in UMF 

Research and Innovation Partnerships

  • Serve as a liaison between faculty researchers and corporate R&D teams to facilitate communication and collaboration.
  • Identify and promote translational research opportunities for faculty by aligning expertise with industry needs. 
  • Facilitate corporate research contract development
  • Liaise with corporations to understand their research needs 

Innovation Ecosystem Intelligence

  • Build and maintain relationships with innovation organizations (e.g., UM-Innovation Partnerships, MEDC, New Lab, Detroit Innovation Center) to advance UMF?s role in regional and statewide innovation initiatives.
  • Support efforts to track and report on innovation hubs, venture capital initiatives, funding opportunities, and workforce development initiatives.

Program Management & Strategic Leadership

  • Provide administrative and logistical support for Office of Research initiatives, ensuring smooth execution of industry research  engagement programs.
  • Coordinate economic development efforts with initiatives with UM-Flint Office of Economic Development.
  • Coordinate with the University Advancement to ensure coordination with planned cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of philanthropic fundraising.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Must be a current staff of UM-Flint 
  • Bachelors degree 
  • 5 or more years of experience working in industry relations or other relevant experience related to the job responsibilities 
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in relevant software and other tools related to the job responsibilities

Modes of Work

 

Hybrid:

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.  Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
