The Michigan Neuroscience Institute was established in 1955 to bring together investigators from across the University of Michigan campus to probe the mysteries of the brain on a cellular, molecular, and behavioral level. Its 160 faculty and affiliate members seek to understand the function and dysfunction of the human brain.

Manages all phases of a large, complex research project with PI. 

Working directly with Dr. Goldman on the development and implementation of own experiments, evaluates the data, and sets future directions. 

Assists in reviewing and writing significant portions of research proposals. 

Writes manuscripts and helps edit manuscripts and grants written by other lab members. 

Leads several large and complex research projects requiring the use of sophisticated tools and techniques, critical thinking, and people management skills. 

Assess the operations and makes decisions about the direction and performance of the research work. 

Responsible for the day to day operations of a specialized laboratory within the program. 

Troubleshoots problems and helps other lab members when they are having difficulty in their projects. 

Supervises and helps other students and postdocs in the lab. Acts on behalf of the PI with other departments, programs, and external agencies. 

Communicates research at national and international meetings.

• Ph.D. in biology or related field is required with success demonstrated by multiple peer reviewed publications. 
• At least 5-6 years related experience using zebrafish as model system and at least 2 years experience in studying regenerative mechanisms in the central nervous system. 
• Must have strong cell biology and molecular biology skills that include making vectors that are used for generating transgenic zebrafish and the application of CRISPR/Cas9 technology for gene editing. 
• Experience in gene knockdown studies using morpholinos is also required. 
• Publications demonstrating research experience and productivity in the above areas are required. 
• Must be a responsible, well-organized and confident scientist that communicates clearly and is able to work as part of a team.
