Job Summary

 

Provide professional training and research opportunities for English language teaching professionals and graduate students. Interns will work closely with Michigan Language Assessment teams on English language assessment tasks and projects that are appropriate to their interests and skills.

Interns will be involved in activities relating to the design and construction of language assessments. These can include item writing and review, quality assurance activities, and test development projects. Interns will also have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of test review and research activities. These may include research design, data collection and analysis and the documentation of results. 

Interns report to the Assessment Developer or an appointed representative.  Reporting is through formal weekly meetings and daily contact via face-to-face and electronic communication.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Responsibilities will vary by internship and will be dependent on the project each intern is involved in. Interns will be expected to participate fully in all aspects of the projects, including item writing and review, quality assurance activities, data entry and analysis, reviews of the literature, and report writing.
  • All interns will be expected to submit a report of their work at the end of their internship.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • English language teaching professional with a minimum of a BA in Language, Education, or Linguistics, or equivalent combination of education and experience with work experience in TESL.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Time-management skills.
  • Basic office IT products (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • The ability to learn additional software programs, as needed.
  • Experience in language education.
  • Knowledge of testing products.

Work Locations

 

Michigan Language Assessment is seeking candidates located in or around Ann Arbor. This is an in-person role at the Michigan Language Assessment office in Ann Arbor, MI. 

This position may be eligible for remote and/or flexible work opportunities at the discretion of the hiring department. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on the business needs of the hiring department, throughout the course of employment.
