Job Summary

 

Work collaboratively to provide surgery scheduling, complex test coordination, referral transcription, appointment scheduling, for patients of our pediatric surgical services population. Assist the team to ensure appropriate authorizations, medical clearance, outside medical records, and other required test results are obtained.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Work with physicians on adherence to surgery scheduling procedures for pediatric population
  • Transcribe referrals received through various systems
  • Manage phone calls from internal and external customers related to surgery, new patient scheduling, and follow up scheduling. 
  • Coordinate with other departments to schedule appointments with multiple specialties.
  • Enter and understand CPT codes into scheduling system to permit business team?s identification of financial liability. 
  • Serve as representative of the team/role on various committee?s and workgroups as needed. 
  • Follow compliance and HIPAA compliance protocols Maintain responsibility for MiChart grids.
  • Verify/obtain proper insurance address and documentation to insure correct charges. 
  •  Develop, along with other scheduling colleagues, standardized workflow.  Manage daily work queues.
  • Reconcile charges for various clinic appointments and procedures
  • Edit templates and submit tickets to cadence for permanent template changes
  • Obtain insurance approvals using established insurance company guidelines. 
  • Acts on behalf of the department physicians in the role of Surgery Scheduler for the clinic. 
  • Under FSLA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.

 

Required Qualifications*

 
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3 - 4 years of experience.
  • Experience as surgery scheduler
  • Experience with MiChart, scheduling grids and CPT coding
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Able to work staggered schedule
  • Ability to communicate and establish positive relationship with physicians

 

Work Schedule

 

This position will work dayshift 8-4:30 Monday through Friday. Hours and location may be adjusted as needed on the needs of the operation.

Union Affiliation

 

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening
