Job Summary

 

We are hiring for five 1.0 FTE MSW positions in our newly established Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program, scheduled to open in the Summer, 2025. The social workers will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing intensive mental health care including group therapy and individual and family interventions to youth from ages 12-17. Responsibilities*

 

You will be responsible for:

  • Participating in multi-disciplinary team meetings several times per week
  • Facilitating process- focused group therapy, educational groups, and evidenced based groups
  • Conducting psychosocial assessments
  • Providing caregiver support and psychoeducation
  • Providing individual and family therapy
  • Case management and discharge planning for patients completing PHP
  • Ability to complete safety assessments and triage as appropriate
  • Obtaining insurance authorizations and conducting continuing stay reviews
  • Making referrals to community agencies
  • Keeping up-to date records in Mi-Chart and providing statistical information required by the Social Work Department. Completing all other required departmental trainings. 

Required Qualifications*

 
  • A Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
  • A current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in acute mental health care settings 

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Skilled in suicide risk assessment, safety planning, and lethal means restriction counseling.
  • Experience facilitating evidenced based process- focused and didactic group therapy sessions
  • Experience providing individual and family therapy within a short-term, crisis stabilization paradigm
  • Knowledge of evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, DBT, ERP, ACT)  and familiarity with brief, structured interventions (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation, Solution-Focused Family Therapy) along with a basic knowledge of psychopharmacology.
  • Experience obtaining insurance authorizations and conducting utilization review
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to advocate on behalf of patients and families
  • Skilled in developing rapport and effectively communicating with a diverse patient population.
  • Efficient, accurate assessment of patient needs and effective case dispositions.
  • Effective organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks in a dynamic medical clinic.
  • Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position. 
  • Effective collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in keeping accurate and timely clinical records by computer.

Work Schedule

 

This is full time, 40 hour/week position. The typical schedule is Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm.

This position will work out of the Child and Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program.

Underfill Statement

 

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.  Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening
