This job opening is for a Temporary Float RN position within the Central Staffing Resource Department (CSR) and services the Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital Birthing Center. (The specialty cluster for VVWH Birth Center includes labor and delivery, OR circulator, and mother/baby)

Wage: $55.00/hr. base rate
Evening Shift Differential is $5.00 per hour
Night Shift Differential is $ 3.00 per hour
Weekend Differential is $5.00 per hour

**Note:  Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital is transitioning in a Unit Reconfiguration process from a single unit LDRP to four OB specialty focused units in late 2021.  In the current LDRP setting, the staff of Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital are committed to the care of antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum women and their newborns in a single maternity care setting.  Low and high risk care is provided.  

The Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital OB CSR specialty cluster is a flexible staffing resource pool for VVWH within CSR (Central Staffing Resource).  The OB CSR-specialty nurses provide staffing in the three VVWH units – Labor and Delivery, High Risk (OB Triage excluded), and Mother Baby.  The OB CSR nurses receive general supervision from CSR management and functional supervision from VVWH nursing management.  The VVWH staff are committed to the care of antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, peri-operative and peri-anesthesia women, their fetuses, and their newborns, in the setting of general or moderate nursing care and in an environment that supports and empowers families.  Common diagnoses include labor, vaginal or assisted birth, cesarean section, surgical procedures, procedural post-anesthesia, higher-order multiple birth, newborn transition, fetal complications and procedures, fetal demise, electronic fetal/uterine activity monitoring, pain, comfort, and coping management, mother-baby care, identification of, and intervention with, common and complex obstetric, medical and surgical complications impacting the childbearing woman, her fetus(s) and newborn(s).  

OB CSR nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.  OB CSR nurses work in collaboration with, and provide direction and delegation with, clerical staff, surgical technologists, and patient care technicians.   In addition to general and moderate-level nursing care, responsibilities of OB CSR nurses include (but are not limited to) the VVWH Nursing Standards of Care, ASPAN Standards, AWHONN Standards; upholding the Mission, Vision, and Values of Michigan Medicine; and supporting all policies, guidelines, procedures and processes.

Expectation for the position:  Ability and requirement to work in all OB sub-specialty areas within VVWH.

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
• Two (2) or more years recent (within 3 years) full-time RN experience in an inpatient labor and delivery setting or high risk inpatient antepartum setting, to include some experience with mother/baby care.
• Demonstrated ability to work in an extremely fast-paced unpredictable patient care environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a labor and delivery setting, inpatient high risk antepartum setting, operating room and PACU setting, and postpartum-newborn setting. 
• Current AHA BLS Provider certification
• Current AAP Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) credentialed
• Successful completion of a minimum of five (5) nursing continuing education units earned in fetal monitoring within the last two (2) years.

Current certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), Inpatient Obstetric Nursing, Maternal Newborn Nursing, critical care nursing, progressive care nursing, operating room or peri-anesthesia nursing

Experience as a Registered Nurse in a high-risk/high volume perinatal setting

ACLS or OB ACLS certification.

Successful completion of AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring course.

**Commitment is 32 hours per 4 week scheduling period, excluding coverage of incremental PTO**
Available shifts are determined by staffing needs on the unit.

Evening and night shifts, 8-hour and 12-hour shifts, are available with shift start times of 11am, 3pm, 7pm, 11pm

Location: University Hospital: Central Staffing Resources Specialty Cluster,  Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital Birthing Center.

Please Note:

• Expected to float to like units where competent and qualified in times of decreased activity
• Inability to work for three (3) months consecutively will lead to automatic termination from employment at Michigan Medicine.
• No guarantee of work at any time, and shifts can, and sometimes will be cancelled.
• No weekend requirement, but may be scheduled for weekends
• Variable shifts
• Expected to work majority of shifts between the hours of 11:00am and 03:00am or where unit need is demoinstrated

 TEMPORARY FLOAT NURSE GUIDELINES

1) All CSR employees are required to attend an annual educational Blitz to complete required

UM mandatories and compentencies (BCLS every 2 yrs, Cardiac Arrest and maintain all

other applicable certifications).

2) Temporary Float Nurses are expected to work all shifts requested unless no work is

available. It is the intention that all Temps will float to all units within the cluster speciality.

3)  A Temporary Nurse should work 32 hours per 4 week schedule block. You may request four

(4), eight (8), or twelve (12) hours shifts in advance.

4) Temporary Nurses in the CSR Clusters are NOT required to work weekends or holidays.

5) Temporary Nurses will participate in a newly designed, streamlined, onboarding/orientation

program. However, the progression of orientation will be dependent upon clinical

competency, staffing needs of the individual units, and the number of hours worked by the

Temporary RN. 

6) Commitment to 32 hr/schedule period to pick up open unit needs before pick up hours for staff incremental PTO

7)  Maintain NRP credentialing every 2 years
