Job Summary

The Centers for South Asian and Southeast Asian Studies (CSAS & CSEAS), housed within the LSA International Institute, are both long-standing, national leaders in promoting a deeper understanding of their regions. CSAS (ii.umich.edu/csas) and CSEAS (https://ii.umich.edu/cseas) offer a range of area-related courses taught by outstanding faculty, a scholarly lecture series, conferences, study abroad fellowships, student colloquiums, cultural programming, and opportunities to volunteer, sponsor and cosponsor a variety of events.

CSAS & CSEAS are also US Department of Education designated National Resource Centers, funded to develop area studies education for this region of the world, in no small part by supporting the training of educators in these regions, and implementing and promoting area-related activities to business, media, and the general public.

CSAS & CSEAS are seeking an individual to serve as a joint Outreach Coordinator. The individual will work closely with the faculty directors of both Centers, and coordinate efforts with the program specialists to promote the activities of the Centers to the public, develop outreach programming, and implement K-14 educator training programs to encourage the learning and teaching about South and Southeast Asia in Michigan and more widely in the US. More about K-14 outreach programs in CSAS, CSEAS and other II centers can be found on the II website: ii.umich.edu/ii/k-16-educators.

This position has a multiple reporting relationship; primary functional supervision is provided by the Asia Centers Business Manager, and academic direction of the center is provided by faculty directors.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position that will occasionally require evening and weekend work hours.
