Job Summary

 

We are seeking a Payroll Analyst Senior to join the Salary Transfers/U-Year Faculty/Non-Instructional Pool area of our Payroll Office.

Please note:  We have posted this position as a Payroll Analyst Senior but could opt to underfill at a Payroll Analyst Intermediate level.  The candidate will be offered the position at the senior or intermediate level based on their overall qualifications and experience in areas directly relevant to the responsibilities of the position.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Calculate and process salary proration adjustments for retroactive job data changes associated with University Year appointments.
  • Audit daily pay adjustment transactions created within the Pay-Timekeeping area of the Payroll Office for retroactive appointment changes.
  • Process general ledger salary transfers for retroactive funding changes for individual employees.
  • Research and respond to customer inquiries, including university-year salary proration rules, sponsored program funded payroll transactions and workers compensation payments.
  • Reconcile university-year appointments funded by federal funds during the academic year.
  • Prepare training materials and participate in training presentations for staff in Payroll and other university departments.
  • Coordinate non-instructional pool time reporting with department representatives for sponsored research positions supporting multiple projects.
  • Review federal work-study funded positions to ensure sufficient funding and process distribution adjustments as necessary.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's degree or five or more years of qualified business office experience.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, as well as work under pressure and with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks with varied deadlines; must be pro-active, collaborative and adaptable as technology and procedures are refined and changed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate and work with a variety of individuals and units across campus and practice confidentiality and discretion.  
  • Proven ability to think independently, work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Working knowledge of PC's and desktop software, preferably Microsoft Office Suite and Google Gmail.

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/business.
  • Knowledge of payroll policies and regulations, particularly at the University of Michigan
  • Payroll experience in a college or university environment.  
  • Experience working with complex financial and HR information systems (Oracle PeopleSoft helpful).

Work Schedule

 

This is a full-time position Monday through Friday.  As part of the University of Michigan Finance Division's Future of Work initiative, this position may work onsite or hybrid (both onsite work and remotely) based on the business needs of the position.

Please note: We have posted this position as a Payroll Analyst Senior ($65,000 - $73,000) but could opt to underfill at a Payroll Analyst Intermediate level ($51,710 - $58,100).  The candidate will be offered the position at the senior or intermediate level based on their overall qualifications and experience in areas directly relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
