Michigan Medicine Orthotics and Prosthetic Center

The Michigan Medicine Orthotics and Prosthetics Center is a large multi-disciplinary clinic dedicated to providing high quality orthotic and prosthetic services for adults and children. The 30,000 square foot facility is in Ann Arbor, MI. We are actively seeking compassionate, enthusiastic, and patient-oriented individuals who will share in the goal of creating the ideal experience for our patients, families, and employees.

We?ll work with you to master our electronic medical record (MiChart) and scheduling systems (Cadence) as well as Orthotic/Prosthetic specific programs. You will collaborate with other clinics to schedule appointments and verify insurances. In many cases, you?ll be the first and last person our patients and their families see as they visit our facilities.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Provide exceptional customer service, greet patients, and perform check-in and check-out functions.
  • Accurately and efficiently schedule patient appointments utilizing two EMR systems (MiChart & OPIE) after determining appropriate sub-specialty within a clinic based on prescription details.
  • Respond to urgent appointment requests/walk-ins.
  • Perform insurance verifications, update medical, financial, and demographic information.
  • Collect patient copays/payments, reconcile cash drawer in Cadence and run settlement reports as necessary.
  • Initiate and respond to telephone encounters in Cadence and OPIE messages in a timely manner to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Request and follow up on medical documentation on behalf of the patient to meet insurance requirements.
  • Schedule new and return visits determining appropriate sub-specialty within a clinic based on prescription and referral needs as well as urgency of the appointment request.
  • Provide clerical support for clinical staff as related to front desk responsibilities.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Graduation from high school or GED
  • 2-3 years of related experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Demonstrated active listening, written, verbal, and information technology skills. 

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Some college education
  • Outstanding customer service skills with one to two years? experience in a health care setting, scheduling patient appointments
  • Patient account and/or insurance verification experience
  • Knowledge of patient scheduling systems, Cadence (MiChart) or Epic software is preferred
  • Knowledgeable of medical terminology, preferably in the field of Physical Medicine, Orthotics and Prosthetics

Work Schedule

 

This will be a Full-Time (Non-Exempt), 40 hours per week; Monday ? Friday schedule. 

Modes of Work

Union Affiliation

 

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

 

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
