Job Summary

 

The Kaczorowski lab is looking to fill a part-time position for an Associate Research Lab Technician.

A part-time research technician position is available in the Kaczorowski lab in the Department of Neurology at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Michigan Kaczorowski Lab (umich.edu). We are seeking a laboratory technician with experience in rodent handling and molecular biology techniques to work on an exciting project involving rodent modeling of Huntington's disease.

Responsibilities*

 

The successful candidate will participate in animal handling, animal behavior assays, mouse genotyping, immunohistochemistry, and assisting with the management of transgenic mouse colonies. In addition, they will help train undergraduate research assistants in the lab. We are looking for someone who has the aptitude to learn new techniques, works well with others, and possesses strong critical thinking skills.

  • Help maintain lab organization and record all information, daily, in an official electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Assist with experiments that involve mouse handling and animal behavior assays.
  • Maintain organization of mouse colonies, including supervision of genotyping and genetic crosses.
  • Assist with tissue dissection.
  • Onboard and train users in lab protocols, equipment operation, and standard techniques.
  • Participate in periodic research discussions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and achieve short- and long-range plans.
  • Ensure functionality and maintenance of instrumentation.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field

  • Mouse handling and husbandry skills.

Additional Information

 

Standard weekly hours: 20 per week (PART TIME)

This is an 18 month term-limited appointment. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and you will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening

 

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
