Manage the Undergraduate Office: The UG Program Coordinator works closely with the curriculum coordinator and Undergraduate Office administrative assistant. The person in this role serves as a liaison with multiple offices including LSA Undergraduate Education, the LSA Newnan Advising Center, and the LSA Honors Program. The UG Program Coordinator ensures the department is compliant with LSA and University policies & procedures around student services. The individual in this position will work with the faculty to recognize student excellence through a number of annual research/writing department-level awards. Additionally, the UG Program Coordinator collaborates with the English internship coordinator to offer students opportunities for internships, funding sources, and funding eligibility. The UG Program Coordinator is also an ex-officio member of the Undergraduate Advisory Committee.
Manage Student Advising: The UG Program Coordinator is responsible for training the department faculty advisors, up to two peer advisors, and the UG office staff. The individual in this role will also advise students on English programs and course plans, grade grievances, petitions, study abroad, and transfer credit. This position also oversees events for English majors and works closely with the Undergraduate English Association and other undergraduate student organizations, offering guidance and budget assistance.
Oversee Curriculum Planning: The UG Program Coordinator partners with the DUS and curriculum coordinator to provide leadership in the annual curriculum planning process and offers the faculty important advice about course attributions, policy considerations. The UG Program Coordinator also provides ad hoc data collection efforts from vested partners to oversee management of enrollments and opens and closes courses. This position assists with the design and development of new programs (currently, the creative writing minor and disability studies minor) and changes in major, policies and procedures pertinent to curriculum and programs. This includes course approval and program implementation, along with input for curricular revisions.
Provide Strategic Planning and Programming: Partnering with the Director of the Undergraduate Studies, the Undergraduate Program Coordinator provides leadership to the department in developing initiatives and strategies and engaging our students in department activities, as well as encouraging lower division undergraduate students to consider English as a major or minor. We expect the Undergraduate Program Coordinator to perform data analysis and review trends in enrollments to market courses to both majors and non-majors and to provide ad hoc data reports & data collection as necessary.
Manage Discussion Sections & Writing Fellow Assignments: The Undergraduate Program Coordinator, in consultation with the Graduate Office, manages the application process, hiring, and assignments for graduate student instructors (GSIs) who are discussion section leaders or writing fellows in faculty-taught courses. The Undergraduate Coordinator also manages the spring/summer teaching assignments for faculty, graduate students and lectures.
