We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced team member to serve as a Harm Reduction Clinical Liaison on a new NIH-funded research project called Coalition for Harm Reduction and Prevention (CHRP). The Clinical Liaison will support the development of a hub and spoke program to help rural primary care and mental health clinics in Michigan implement a spectrum of addiction prevention to harm reduction services. The Clinical Liaison will then support the clinical trial testing this program by acting as liaison for rural clinics across the state of Michigan and providing elements of the program (e.g. prevention/harm reduction training, supporting learning collaborative discussions, providing tele-consultation) and completing and interpreting ongoing assessments to customize the program to clinic needs and track implementation. This work will occur both remotely with occasional in-person meetings with clinics throughout the State of Michigan.

The person in this position must have background in substance use and a passion for harm reduction approach to addiction. The person in this position will gain expertise in program implementation (with support from the research team) and will carry out program implementation processes in clinics with the goal to increase clinic knowledge and delivery of services. • Developing intervention components for patients, clinicians, and community clinics (e.g. trainings, manuals, patient-facing handouts, resource guides)

• Provide prevention/harm reduction training to spoke sites (e.g., didactic training, tele-consultation, and tele-mentoring) to support the implementation of prevention and harm reduction interventions in rural clinics. 
• Act as liaison between research leadership, clinical experts (University of Michigan, Western Michigan University, Michigan State University) and community clinics to coordinate implementation of the CHRP program. 
• Administrative tasks: work alongside project staff to ensure successful completion of daily operations. Assist with event scheduling and planning, including establishing CE credits. May help with regulatory requirements for projects (e.g. submitting IRB materials and maintaining approved projects). 
• Write and prepare dissemination products.
• Additional tasks as necessary to meet the goals of the grant and CHRP participants.

      Required Qualifications for all levels:

• The job will require engaging clinics and staff in rural communities; therefore, strong interpersonal skills that foster collaboration, including excellent assessment and written and verbal communication skills is required.
• Prior training and experience with substance use disorders and treatment topics.
• Familiarity with patient care and clinical care environments, including in mental health, primary care or addiction clinics.
• Initiative-taking and organized, with strong attention to detail, excellent multi-tasking and problem-solving ability, and strong record-keeping skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrate strategic thinking, planning, and problem-solving skills. Strong time-management skills and ability to set and meet goals, working both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work and engage with teams remotely, thus comfort with technology and remote communication is required.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel to office in Ann Arbor, MI, and rural clinics in the State of Michigan.

Research Area Specialist Senior: Bachelor's Degree and 5-6 years of related experience, i.e., published in a field of specialty and academic knowledge in a field or discipline.

Research Area Specialist Intermediate: Bachelor's Degree and 4-5 years of experience in a related field.

Research Area Specialist Associate: Bachelor's Degree is required and 1-3 years of experience in a related field.

• Master's or Doctoral Degree preferred.
• 3-5 years of relevant work experience in addiction (nurse, care manager, social worker, therapist, harm reduction coordinator, other clinic staff, etc.).
• Previous experience with program implementation facilitation.
• Experience in clinical research (including with IRB and other regulatory requirements).
• Creativity and aptitude to create user-centered content, including drafting original content for study intervention.
• Prior experience delivering trainings on sensitive clinical topics.
• Prior training and experience with harm reduction model of addiction services.
• Experience working with and advocating for rural or underserved populations with substance use and other mental health conditions.
• Previous positions developing materials on mental health, substance use, or rural care. 

The Clinical Liaison will be responsible for completing a schedule consisting of 40 hours a week, usually held within 5 days. Our typical workday is either 9am to 5pm or 8am to 4pm based on manager's approval. Some weekend or evening shifts will be needed to meet the goals/needs of the research grant(s). Flexible hours are available for staff while we work remotely for participant-facing activities only or based on manager discretion and approval.

Our team is currently working hybrid model, with workdays at the Ann Arbor North Campus Research Center/Remote. Candidate for this position will be required to visit CHRP clinic sites throughout the State of Michigan, thus must have reliable transportation to meet the in-person requirements of the role, when necessary. The hybrid model of this position may change based on research/grant needs or University of Michigan policy updates.
