This is a full-time (40 hours) Social Work (MSW) position responsible for the Ambulatory Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant and NeuroOncology clinics.
The patients with cancer diagnoses and their families have intense ongoing psychosocial needs and multiple barriers to care. For many of these children who go on to require a bone marrow transplant, the needs are exacerbated by prolonged illness and further familial disruption. The significant treatment burden and disease management needs associated with these patients leads to the co-occurrence of frequent mental health and adjustment concerns. Based on this potential for acuity and risk, it is crucial for patients and families to have access to an MSW. Additionally, transplant, including Bone Marrow, is an extensive and well-regulated process that includes the requirement for MSW support and assessment.
C.S. Mott Children?s Hospital at Michigan Medicine supports the care and treatment of patients with a wide variety of specialty care needs. The multitude of clinics and programs within the hospital share a common philosophy of caring for the whole child (and person), which not only includes excellent medical care but an accompanying regard for the mental health and well-being of our patients and the families who love them. Psychosocial care is an indispensable component in the overall clinical care of these complex patients.
