The Colacino Lab at the University of Michigan School of Public Health is seeking a full time Research Technician Senior to pursue neurotoxicological research in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences. In addition to other projects, the Colacino Lab studies how environmental and dietary exposures contribute to neurodegenerative disease risk, with a focus on identifying the biological mechanisms that drive this risk. Other opportunities and responsibilities may also be available depending on your interests and prior experience, such as bioinformatic analyses.  

The position is term limited for 2 years with the possibility to extend based on available funding.  

• Maintaining a genetically diverse mouse colony for the study of neurodegenerative health outcomes following environmental exposures.
• Conducting experiments using techniques including animal closing, behavioral assays, necropsy and tissue preservation, genomic extractions, immunofluorescence, epigenetic and gene expression analyses, quantitative PCR, flow cytometry, and single cell RNA-sequencing.  
• Assisting in cell culture experiments requiring sterile technique. Maintaining general laboratory upkeep, including material stocks, preparation of standard reagents and media for tissue culture, and sterilization of lab supplies by operating an autoclave. 
• Participation in lab safety inspections.

Bachelor's Degree in biology or related field is required, plus 1-2 years experience working in a biomedical research laboratory preferred. Good organizational skills, a strong work ethic, an ability to keep clear and accurate records, and an interest in animal models and learning new biomedical research methods are essential. Must be able to work in a diverse and collaborative team environment. 

The ideal candidate will be good at multi-tasking and have good communications skills. Proficiency in some or all of the following techniques is preferred: mouse colony management and animal handling, dosing necropsy, genomic extractions, data analysis in Prism/Excel/R/SAS/Python. Willing to occasional work after hours or during the weekend, as needed.
