Job Summary

The University of Michigan-Flint invites applications for the position of Teller Intermediate. We are seeking experienced candidates with demonstrated cash handling capabilities who are customer service oriented. This position will be responsible for all cashiering functions as well as using customer service skills in person, by telephone and by email.

The teller will report to the Accounts Receivable Manager and will work with the Cashier and Student Accounts team and other departments. The person will provide support to other team members as requested.

Responsibilities*

  • Interact daily with faculty, staff, students, parents and the public.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding student account questions from students, parents, and university departments. Inquires may be in person, by phone or via email.
  • Accept and apply student payments in the forms of cash, check or money orders. Process returned payments.
  • Process departmental deposits via cash receipt tickets..
  • Process HSIP requests,
  • Process petty cash or travel advances.
  • Daily reconciliations that include preparing and submitting reports. Create Cash Receipt tickets as needed.
  • Become proficient at using the banner software system. Learn how to read and understand a student account. Learn and understand how the application of payment process works. Learn how to test and troubleshoot items in banner
  • Be able to explain U of M policies and procedures relating to student accounts.
  • Place and remove holds or other codes on student accounts. Add comments to student accounts in banner.
  • Prepare itemized statements for students and collection agencies.
  • Assist with the student refunding process. Learn how to take the lead on the process.
  • Assist with the student fee appeal process. Complete the fee appeal checklist prior to turning the documentation over to the designated person.
  • Order supplies as needed
  • Scan and review documents for electronic storage.
  • Represent the department at various functions.
  • Support co-workers with projects they are working on.
  • Adhere to FERPA laws

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two or more years of customer service and monetary transaction experience
  • Experience in the counting and balancing of daily monetary transactions.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Access and the Google suite of products

Modes of Work

Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.  Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes here
