What You'll Do

 

Purpose:

We are looking for an Assistant HR Director to lead the day-to-day HR staff operations at Ross, ensuring the effective delivery of HR services to a diverse workforce, including both union and non-union staff. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by leading HR initiatives, optimizing processes, and serving as a trusted strategic partner to school leadership.

As the Assistant HR Director, you will report to the HR Director and supervise a team of HR professionals while managing HR operations for key business units. You will play an important role in employee relations, labor relations, workforce planning, and HR compliance while driving HR programs such as performance management, employee recognition, and staff development.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Oversee the daily HR operations for 425+ union and non-union staff, ensuring alignment with policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Manage HR processes, including recruitment, compensation, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, and offboarding.
  • Provide strategic HR consultation to senior leadership, ensuring proactive workforce planning and HR solutions.
  • Serve as the primary HR lead for business units led by senior chief officers, offering expert guidance on complex staffing and organizational development matters.
  • Navigate labor relations and collaborate with the university's labor relations team to ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) and HR policies.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of two Staff HR Managers and one HR Assistant, fostering growth and professional development.
  • Partner with the Talent Management Specialist to implement HR programs such as mindful performance processes, employee recognition programs, and leadership development initiatives.
  • Lead efforts to streamline HR processes and improve operational efficiency, including documentation and automation.
  • Act as a liaison between Ross and central HR departments, advocating for staff needs in university-wide initiatives.
     

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of HR experience, including staff HR management and HR business partner operations.
  • Experience managing HR in a unionized environment, including knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, grievance handling, and labor relations best practices.
  • Experience working with senior leadership and providing strategic HR consultation in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Proven ability to lead HR process improvements and implement HR programs.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
     

Modes of Work

Salary Information:

The posting range for this position is $85,600 to $115,550. This posting range reflects multiple factors involved in determining compensation, such as skills, experience, training, certifications, and other organizational needs. At Ross, it is not common for new hires to be offered a salary at the upper end of the range. Compensation decisions are based on the details of each situation.
