Job Summary

 

As a unit within the Office of Student Affairs, the Academic Services team supports the diverse, complex, and changing needs of Michigan Engineering.  We ensure adherence to academic and federal policies, preserve academic integrity, safeguard the security of academic records, and provide accessible services to our community.  This is achieved through transparency, knowledgeable staff, and effective and efficient processes that ensure propriety, confidentiality, and accuracy.  We foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing and best practices amongst our community, and support all engineering students.

The CoE Transfer Credit Evaluator will process transfer credits and incorporate the courses into the transfer equivalency databases. The principal responsibilities include assessing students' transcripts, providing personalized reports of transferred credits, and posting advance test credit. The evaluator oversees compliance with all University and College transfer policies and advises faculty and staff on how to apply for transfer credit appropriately. The Transfer Credit Evaluator also uses technical proficiency with computer systems and digital applications to build electronic files and update student records.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Performs unofficial transfer credit evaluations for prospective transfer and first-year applicants by creating transfer credit summaries.  
  • Reviews and posts credit for cross-campus transfer students and MDDP students according to CoE and University policies. 
  • Maintains transfer course equivalency databases and workflow information, both domestic and international. Routes pending transfer credit courses to appropriate departments for evaluation. Develops a process to continuously update course equivalences on the databases. 
  • Monitors the impact of course equivalency changes and makes recommendations for revisions. 
  • Communicates and coordinates with faculty, department representatives, students, and professionals at other schools and colleges regarding the evaluation of courses and application of transfer credit.
  • Participates in College and University-wide committees and working groups with particular focus on evaluating current transfer systems and procedures for improvement.
  • Develops and manages communications on transfer credit requests and policies, including web content updates, updates to College Bulletin, and other methods of communicating current policies and procedures. Manages the transfer credit evaluations web presence. 
  • Facilitates the evaluation and posting of transfer credit for participants in the International Programs in Engineering Office.  This includes supporting evaluators and IPE staff as they navigate partnerships and pipelines, pulling reports and data, and evaluating transfer credit summaries, checking the number of transferable credits, and posting based on each unique study abroad pathway.
  • Functional supervision of one regular staff member and administrative supervision of one student employee.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience
  • Three or more years of experience in an educational environment in the areas of international credential evaluation, academic records, transfer evaluation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to College and the University's mission, vision and values
  • Work requires an overall understanding of procedures and systems related to the record function in order to identify and resolve complex inquiries and problems. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; strong work ethic and self-motivated; good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with diverse populations with team structure
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and work with data/material of a sensitive nature
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google, data processing and word processing systems      
     

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Experience evaluating international academic credentials, including transcripts, diplomas, and certificates, to determine equivalencies to U.S. educational standards
  • Experience conducting comprehensive reviews of foreign educational systems, grading scales, and credentials from various countries
