The LSA Department of Anthropology invites applicants for a Student Administrative Assistant Senior position (Graduate Program Coordinator). Information about the Department of Anthropology is available at: http://www.lsa.umich.edu/anthro.  The Graduate Program Coordinator has operational responsibility for all aspects of the Department of Anthropology's graduate program.  They have primary responsibility for supporting graduate students and resolving issues, particularly in relation to academic progress and/or funding.  The Coordinator works closely with the Director of Graduate Studies, Graduate Program Assistant, and Chief Administrator to provide support and promote our graduate program in Anthropology.

The Graduate Program Coordinator serves as the first-point of contact for all graduate student inquires.  They provide support to the Director of Graduate Studies and the Fellowships Committee. 

Graduate Program Administration: 

• Oversee all student affairs activity for graduate students including advising, monitoring students academic milestones and progress toward degree requirements.
• Advise graduate students regarding funding, the graduate program degree requirements and milestones (preliminary examinations, advancing to candidacy and doctoral degree).
• Authorize candidacy paperwork and degree certification.
• Oversee events related to the graduate program including new student and GSI orientation, recruitment day, and assist with other departmental events.
• Serve as the liaison between the Rackham Graduate School and other entities providing funding to our graduate students.
• Provide ongoing consultation for faculty regarding complex student concerns, exceptional cases, and programmatic questions.

Graduate Funding: 

• Maintain the current-year graduate funding budget, as well as future year projections.
• Tracks student funding packages (across all sources), works closely with graduate program assistant to administer financial aid for the department.
• Work with the Graduate Director, Undergraduate Program Coordinator, and Chief Administrator to determine GSI assignments, processes offer letters and GSI appointments, responds to questions regarding fellowship payments, GSI paychecks, and benefits, ensures compliance with GSI contract and the LSA ten-term rule.

Award Nominations:

• Prepare funding nominations for incoming and continuing students (Rackham RMF, FLAS awards, etc.).
• Organize the departments nominations for Rackham Pre-doc awards, outstanding GSI awards, Sweetland fellowships, etc.
• The Coordinator is expected to participate in annual and monthly trainings/meetings to stay current on University and College policies and best practices, such as the Rackham.
• Graduate Staff Training sessions, the Graduate Coordinators Forum, and LGrad (LSA Graduate Staff) meetings.  The Coordinator serves as a back-up for other departmental staff. 

• Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, with a minimum of four years of experience in an academic setting.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive matters/materials is required.
   

The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to maintain a professional manner under stress, to set priorities while working on multiple projects, to maintain accuracy through repeated interruptions, and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a diverse group including prospective and current students, faculty and staff.  The candidate must be a self-starter; have a commitment to customer service; have excellent organizational skills; be able to set priorities and handle multiple assignments and deadlines; learn quickly; and have the desire to identify opportunities for changes to processes, procedures and duties.  We require a high proficiency with information technology applications including spreadsheets, word processing, and email.  A high degree of attention to detail and accuracy is critical in order to be successful in this position.

• Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous work experience in student services administration.  Experience supporting a social science program.  
• Experience with M-Pathways student administration systems, M-Pathways financial systems, and knowledge of University and Rackham policies and administrative procedures is highly preferred.

The target salary range for the position is $47,000 to $58,500.  A higher salary may be possible based on equity and the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
The expected work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday with the majority of the positions work expected to be conducted on-site (4 in-person days and 1 remote day).
