The Resident Advisor/Conference Assistant (RA/CA) position in Housing and Residential Life is a temporary position during the spring and summer terms only. As an employee, you will be working with spring/summer residents and conference guests. This position requires strong interpersonal and customer service skills, as well as time management and flexibility as this position has a non-traditional work schedule.
Responsibilities:
Support Spring/Summer Conferences & Guests:
- Prepare access cards for conference check in
- Ensure spaces are ready for participants: prepping before and after conference groups which will include: making beds and/or linen packets, hanging shower curtains, ensuring supplies are accessible, maintenance issues are reported, and linens made available (if group requested)
- Assist conference administrators with their check in/out processes
- Respond to conference guests' needs
- Conduct monthly health and safety inspections for conference guests
- Community walks of occupied spaces during conferences
- Post-conference, staff members will assess damages, and remove trash and linens from rooms
Support Spring/Summer Residents:
- Be available to facilitate the spring/summer/fall move in and move out processes
- Provide door and hallway decorations for each resident for spring/summer
- Complete bulletin board(s) by deadlines provided by supervisor
- Conduct monthly health & safety inspections for residential students
- Report maintenance concerns and follow up on maintenance requests
- Complete daily community walks & complete duty log
- Facilitate community development programming each month
- Enforce the Community Living Standards by confronting and documenting violations, while modeling personal behavior that is consistent with the Resident's Guide to Community Living at UM-Flint, the Code of Student Conduct, and City, State and Federal Laws
- Support the holistic wellness of students and report all situations that may impact a student
General Responsibilities:
- Serve on a duty rotation in the building with another RA/CA
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Serve as a front desk assistant and/or maintain scheduled office hours
- Continuously monitor e-mail for up-to-date information from HRL staff and campus partners
- Represent Housing and Residential Life by wearing staff uniform and name badge when working designated events
- Provide support to HRL during new student orientation (resource fair, tours, overnight visits, etc.)
- Maintain an organized working space (i.e. storage spaces, RA resource room)
- Follow the Code of Student Conduct & the Community Living Standards
- Communicate issues/concerns i.e. guests, visitors, and/or residents to appropriate staff member.
- Serve as a mandatory reporter (Clery Act) and responsible employee (Title IX) and immediately report related incidents according to federal mandates and university policies.
