Job Summary

 

The Facilities/Operations Assistant will report to the Facilities/Operations Coordinator and provide support for facilities and maintenance issues, as well as staff the Information Desk while delivering a high level of customer service. You will work with a team of dedicated facilities colleagues who play an essential role in ensuring a clean, safe, secure, and well-maintained environment for those who work in, study at, and visit the Duderstadt Center.

The Duderstadt Center on the University of Michigan's North Campus, is a student-centric, technology rich, collaborative environment and is one of the most dynamic spaces at the university. The center is open 24/7 year-round and is home to advanced technology labs, media studios, a gallery, the Art, Architecture and Engineering Library, Engineering IT - CAEN, the Center for Entrepreneurship, and more. With a bustling cafe, conferencing facilities, student group activities, and visits from job recruiters, there is almost always something happening in the center.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Staff the Information Desk, using excellent customer service skills to meet building occupant and visitor needs and ensure adherence to university and Duderstadt Center policies and regulations.
  • Complete facility walkthroughs and visual inspections to observe and report maintenance issues and record headcounts.
  • Resolve building maintenance and housekeeping issues through coordination with internal/external providers and communicate issue status to building occupants, users, and visitors.
  • Assist with coordination of signage, keys, and access of building with stakeholders.
  • Assist with moving furniture and property disposition coordination.
  • Assist with classroom resets and setup/teardown for events and activities.
  • Manage deliveries at the dock, including the distribution of packages and mail.
  • Handle emergency preparedness, coordination of emergency response teams (ERT), and incident response and reporting while following established regulations and procedures.
  • Work with other facilities personnel across the university to improve operations.      
     

Required Qualifications*

 
  • High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related role requiring confidentiality, timeliness, customer service, organization, and progressive responsibility in facilities operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, within a team, and with a diverse population while delivering a high level of customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in an environment where independent decision-making, judgment, and actions were successfully demonstrated.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills as well as the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstration of good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Sheets, Docs, and Forms) and basic computing skills, including email, calendaring, and document creation and editing.
  • Able to move furniture and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Proven record of reliability, good attendance and punctuality.
     

Work Schedule

 

Duties are performed onsite and in person. Two positions are currently available:

  • Second shift, 3:30 pm - 12:00 am, Sunday - Thursday 
  • Third shift, 11:30 pm - 8:00 am, Thursday - Monday 

Note that schedules may change depending on business needs. 
 

Modes of Work

 

The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan.

These are one-year, term-limited positions with the possibility of extension.
