The Digital Architecture Research and Technologies (DART) laboratory at Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning and Barton Research Group at the Robotics Department at the University of Michigan are looking for a term-limited postdoctoral research associate in artificial intelligence, robotics, and 3D printing in architecture and construction to join our team for one year with the possibility of an extension. You will have a shared appointment with both the Department of Architecture and the College of Engineering?s Robotics Department. Reporting to Dr. Mania Aghaei Meibodi, you will work together with Dr. Kira Barton to advance research in artificial intelligent robotic 3D manufacturing in architecture and construction. The DART laboratory and Barton?s Research Group are collaborating as leading research laboratories in the areas of intelligent robotic 3d printing, aiming to redefine the next-generation design and building processes. Taubman College is a leading national and international research institution in robotic innovations, construction and computational design, 3D printing, and XR technologies tailored for design and construction.  

Postdoctoral Research Associate will be working in one or an intersection of the following topics. Candidates should identify one (or an intersection of) the following topics below in their statement of interest:

• Generative AI for design in robotic construction or 3D printing  
• Robotic Additive Manufacturing in Construction
• Sensor integration, data collection, analysis, and modeling
• Concrete Material Science for 3D printing

This job is situated in Ann Arbor, and on-campus work is required five days per week.

• Conduct research on generative AI designing for 3D printing or robotic construction, robotic additive manufacturing in construction
• Theoretical formulation and modeling 
• Conduct experimental studies
• Publish research findings
• Collaborate on grant proposals
• Mentor Ph.D. researchers 
• Participate in stakeholder and area topic workshops related to the research.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the Center of Intelligent/Smart Robotic Additive Manufacturing in Construction.

The responsibilities listed above are representative of some of the duties required for this position and are not an exhaustive list. The responsibilities may evolve and/or change over time to meet the needs of the research team.

• Ph.D. or equivalent in relevant fields such as architecture, computer science, data science, robotics, and engineering.

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $75,000. Factors used to determine salary include experience, knowledge, and skills for the position.
