The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan is seeking to hire a Research Laboratory Technician Intermediate in Professor Trisha Wittkopp's laboratory https://sites.lsa.umich.edu/wittkopp-lab/

Professor Wittkopp's research investigates the genetic basis of phenotypic evolution. The evolution of development, especially mechanisms controlling gene regulation, are of particular interest. Molecular and developmental biology, population and quantitative genetics, genomics and bioinformatics are integrated in this work. For details of current research, please see the RESEARCH page.

• Maintain Drosophila stock collection, reagent databases, solutions, sterilize equipment, waste management, order supplies and monitor budget
• Maintain compliance with radiation and lab safety protocols
• Calendar and website maintenance, as well as other administrative work may be required
• Supervise and train undergraduate students for work with both Drosophila and yeast species
• Research, including: Design, execute and analyze molecular biology experiments related to the lab's research interests, including PCR, gel electrophoresis, sequencing, DNA extractions, cloning (Gibson and restriction enzyme based), and high-throughput flow cytometry of yeast cells. 
• Perform genetic crossing experiments with Drosophila and transformations of S. cerevisiae (yeast)

High School/Associate's degree, plus 1-2 years of relevant research experience. Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with Drosophila (melanogaster and non-melanogaster species) or S. cerevisiae (baker's yeast) and molecular biology techniques. Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to details are highly valued for this position.

BS in Biology preferred. Computer programming skills and statistical skills will also be considered assets.
