Responsibilities*

 

Cell culture - thawing and maintaining cell lines using sterile technique. Treatment of cell lines with soluble chemicals and harvesting for qPCR, western blot, and ELISA/related assays to quantify intracellular molecular concentrations.  Generation of stable CRISPR/Cas9 and over-expression cell lines. Genotyping of floxed genes and presence of Cre recombinase from mouse tail/ear tissue. Handling mice, administration of drugs subcutaneously and intra-peritoneal, and euthanasia. Perform readouts for animal studies: PCR, Western blot, tissue staining. Assist with flow-cytometry and RNA seq preparation. Ordering supplies/reagents, maintaining buffers, pouring gels, hood maintenance, autoclave. Will assist in the conception, logistical design, and troubleshooting of both in vitro and in vivo experiments. Analyze data from experiments using Excel, Prism, Image J, FlowJo, etc. Use of relevant biostatistics. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's degree in science and 1-3 years or more of bench experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted, including relevant undergraduate and graduate student experience.
  • Willingness to handle mice and learn in vivo techniques is required.

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in biology or biochemistry
  • Training in animal handling is preferred. 
  • Previous experience with scientific project and presentation of work.

"This is a one-year term-limited appointment. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct."
