The Frankel IHBH and research laboratory of Dr. Anthony Rosenzweig in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI are in search of an exceptional research laboratory technician intermediate to join the research team. The institute is situated in the heart of Michigan Medicine at the North Campus Research Complex in a newly renovated laboratory building within steps of a multitude of research resources, easy access to collaborators, and research services. A growing interest surrounds common mechanisms affecting both the heart and the brain, and how the organs signal to each other in health and disease. The animal research component is rapidly expanding and in addition to surgical models, exercise models, general procedures, etc. we are adding neurocognitive and behavioral testing.

The successful candidate will have general animal care, handling and familiarity with animal research protocols and experience with neurocognitive testing techniques.  This position will play a key role in supporting all animal research occurring within the Frankel IHBH. They will have primary responsibility for the neurocognitive and behavioral testing spaces, surgical and procedure room stations, ensuring all personnel are appropriately trained and provide oversight and guidance on the use of the neurocognitive equipment, software and testing techniques.  This position will assist in the development of standard operating procedures, monitoring room usage and equipment functionality to ensure all spaces are clean and functioning properly.

• A Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field or an Associate's degree and 1-2 years of experience,
• The role requires a strong work ethic, great organization, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• The position requires understanding of general animal care and management

• Skilled in the Isolation of cardiomyocytes from adult and neonatal mice and rat hearts
• Experience with surgical and procedure station set-ups and equipment
• Experience with neurocognitive and behavioral testing equipment and protocols
