Job Summary

The Office of Research at the University of Michigan-Flint seeks an experienced Research Administrator to perform duties related to pre- and post-award support activities. The position is centrally located in the Office of Research and Economic Development.

The Research Administrator will report to the Director of the Office of Research and work collaboratively with faculty and staff from all schools, colleges and units across campus. Hybrid and remote work options are available, based on the candidate's preferences and departmental need, and can include up to 60-80% remote schedule.

Responsibilities*

Pre-Award Research Administration:

  • Develop budgets, budget justifications, review and adhere to proposal submission guidelines, online grant systems,
  • Prepare Proposal Approval Forms,
  • Prepare and maintain documents for submission packages
  • Prepare just- in-time requests
  • Facilitate the preparation of IDC waiver requests
  • Coordinate cost-share requests and meet multiple overlapping deadlines in support of both internal and external grant submissions.

Post-Award Research Administration:

  • Financial reporting, processing and tracking subcontracts, tracking cost-share obligations, account review, UG Reports, spend down plans, FSRs, etc.
  • Reconcile assigned accounts including general, designated, gift, and sponsored fund types on a monthly basis and ensure compliance with UM-Flint finance and sponsor guidelines; investigate and resolve any issues.
  • Develop and run queries using Business Objects in the Financial Data Warehouse and prepare reports including forecasting.
  • Request and open non-sponsored accounts.
  • Prepare no cost time extension and other post award change requests.
  • Create and process journal entries.
  • Prepare responses to inquiries, assist with the preparation of various financial reports and documents.
  • Send faculty regular financial summaries or balance reports.
  • Prepare financial reports for sponsors as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison with Departments, Dean's Offices and ORSP in Ann Arbor.
  • Assist in post-award training for administrative staff at the unit level.
  • Provide support for industry-engaged projects.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • 3 or more years of research administration and/or grant management experience and/or finance
  • Must be knowledgeable of relevant policies related to pre and post award research administration
  • Mastery of Excel/Google Sheets

Modes of Work

Hybrid:

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
