The job involves working with a highly motivated, collaborative, and innovative team involved in clinical/epidemiological research using big data, based in the Division of Nephrology, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan's Medical School and Michigan Medicine. The team has both a national and international reputation.

The team works from the Kidney Epidemiology and Cost Center (KECC), a multidisciplinary research center, housed in the School of Public health at the University of Michigan, and is affiliated with the Institute of Health Policy and Innovation (IHPI), School of Public Health and School of Medicine.

The main areas of focus are kidney disease surveillance and prevention at regional, national, and international levels, as well as implementation science, learning systems, pharmacoepidemiology and quality improvement. The team has a rapidly evolving portfolio in non-communicable disease prevention and global health.

The candidate will serve as a programmer-analyst lead working in close partnership with other programmer-analysts, under the overall supervision of the Principal Investigator. The candidate will work with large and complex data sets typically based on project needs. Examples include Medicare, Medicaid, Department of Veterans Health Administration, and other data sources as needed. The candidate will assist and supervise other team members collaboratively as needed in data preparation for analyses and development of research manuscripts or reports for the sponsor(s). The candidate will ensure high standards for the data structure and documentation. The candidate will perform data cleaning and data analyses under the guidance of the study PI(s), Epidemiologists, and Biostatisticians. The candidate will assist with grant submissions as needed and the team's development of Project Reports and other Deliverables. As required, they will also help explore new data sources as appropriate for the project(s) and assist the PI and Team in understanding them for their potential value.

Other duties as assigned or required for the research project.

• The ideal candidate will have a Master of Science degree in Information, Data Analytics and Health Informatics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology (MS, MPH) or equivalent
• At least 7-10 years of work experience since graduation, specifically in roles as data programmer and senior/lead programmer.
• Extensive knowledge and experience programming in Python, SAS, SQL, Oracle
• Statistical Modeling expertise in Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Generalized Linear Model, Survival analysis, etc. required
• Prior experience in working with Veterans Administration Data and Medicare data
• Experience with Health Informatics, EPIC/CERNER or other types of EHR data analysis

• Experience with designed and development of systems for survey data collection and processing - Survey Design Platforms (Various)
• Experience with Health Informatics, EPIC/CERNER or other types of EHR data analysis.
• Experience with Python, SQL, R, Tableau
• SQL/Oracle/SSMS, Python
• JavaScript & JQuery
• Experience with Machine Learning and Data mining (Random Forests, Gradient Boosting, KNN, Clustering, Support Vector Machine, etc.)
• Knowledge and work experience with Federated Health Care Data Systems 
• Attention to detail and commitment to excellence and innovation
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English
• Proven Track record in leadership role as data manager at prior jobs
