Job Summary

 

The individual in this role will report to the Assistant Director of Disability & Accessibility Support Services and will play a pivotal role in supporting the daily operations of DASS. Their responsibilities include increasing direct support to students who receive accommodations and fostering an environment of disability awareness and inclusion. This position entails assisting in the provision of accommodations, as well as coordinating special projects and events. Furthermore, it offers the opportunity to independently develop and implement accessibility projects and collaborate with various departments.

The work schedule is flexible and will be determined by departmental needs and the individual's availability, with the understanding that some evening or weekend shifts may occasionally be necessary.

Responsibilities*

 

Assist with carrying out some student accommodations.

  • Act as a scribe or reader
  • Assisting students in a lab course
  • Taking notes
  • Locating alternate format textbooks
  • Creating transcriptions of audio

Assist with proctoring tests

  • Preparing an electronic version of a test to work with text-to-speech software
  • Printing and organizing exams
  • Test monitoring

Front desk coverage.

  • Answering and directing calls
  • Greeting office visitors
  • Scanning and shredding documents
  • Creating brochures and flyers
  • Create "how-to" guides
  • Using WordPress to make website updates

Provide training to students on assistive technology.

  • Glean
  • Read&Write
  • NVDA
  • Accommodate (students)

Facilitate projects to engage students on campus

  • Facilitate the "Disability Dialogues" peer support group
  • Assist with event planning
  • Tabling at student orientations, Wolverine Welcome, and other campus events

Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
