The University of Michigan, Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to support a multidisciplinary research team in studying surgical treatment of pediatric tone-related disorders (e.g. spasticity, dystonia).  This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in clinical research while contributing to meaningful advances in the understanding and treatment of tone-related disorders.

• Assist with the design and implementation of research protocols under the supervisor of the principal investigator.
• Recruit and enroll study participants, ensuring informed consent and ethical standards are maintained. 
• Collect and manage clinic data from patient charts, electronic health records, and direct patient interaction.
• Conduct standardized assessments and evaluations of spasticity in study participants.
• Maintain accurate and organized records of all research activities, including data entry and database management.  
• Assist with data analysis using statistical software and contribute to the preparation of reports, abstracts and manuscripts.
• Coordinate and schedule study-related activities and follow-ups with participants and clinical staff.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory and institutional requirements related to human subjects research.
• Participate in regular team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and upcoming tasks.

• Bachelor's degree in related field (e.g., biology neuroscience, psychology, biomedical engineering, public health).
• Prior research experience, particularly in a clinical setting, is preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and familiarity with data analysis software (e.g. SPSS, R) is desirable. 
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a research team.
• Commitment to upholding ethical standards and confidentiality requirements.
• Basic understanding of statistical methods and research design.

• This position may require occasional evening or weekend hours depending on study demands.
• Training in specific research techniques and protocols will be provided.
• This is a temp position 5 hours a week.
